Height regulation for rooms 1.
Floor to roof height.
Commercial buildings have increased service requirements and therefore will generally require minimum floor to underside of slab heights of 3 5 4 0 metres to achieve minimum.
Newer houses are often built with nine foot ceilings on the first floor and sometimes eight foot ceilings on the second story.
Most building codes consider a habitable room such as a living room or bedroom to only have the square footage that has an average height from nominal top of floor to nominal bottom of ceiling of at least 7 0.
Do be aware that you will probably lose some height because of the need for insulation and floor ceiling finishes roughly 20 25cm.
For air conditioned rooms a height of not less than 2 4 m measured from the top of the floor to the lowest point of the air conditioning duct or the false ceiling should be provided.
The minimum height from the surface of the floor to the ceiling or bottom of slab should be not less than 2 75m.
As a reminder please don t forget to add height of rafter thickness of roofing material and ridge vent to the number that you ll get using our calculator.
Note that this recommended dimension is given as a floor to floor height as the floor to ceiling height in a retail or commercial development will depend on the fitout.
If your goal is to only calculate the roof height do not enter any numbers in wall height field and only use building width and roof pitch fields.
It may be slightly less or more than this but depends on your existing roof structure which also may need to be configured to remove any struts that you currently need to step over to move around the space.
